Model systems


How is the structure of a membrane protein impacted by the lipid environment? Specifically, is a structure stabilized by the presence of a lipid boundary? To answer this question, TM0026 serves as a model polytopic helical membrane protein, We use NMR and EPR spectroscopy, as well as other biophysical approaches, to monitor tertiary and secondary structure in different lipid environments varying in the degree of lipid concentrations and segregation properties. This model system also allows us to explore method development to investigate membrane protein structure and dynamics.
